Mirage-2000 Training Moves Further Into Indigenous Simulation Technology The Indian Air Force is acquiring a virtual-reality Part-Task Trainer for Mirage-2000 aircrew, providing an indigenous alternative for practising selected aircraft procedures without repeatedly using frontline fighters. Developed by Threye Interactive Pvt Ltd under the iDEX framework, the system was created through Defence India Start-Up Challenge-5 under the modelling and simulation category. It incorporates virtual reality, flight simulation and real-time networking technologies. The compact computer-based trainer can be configured for individual instruction or group exercises and can operate with both immersive and conventional training arrangements. The system has already undergone IAF trials on the Mirage-2000 platform before moving into procurement. Part-task trainers differ from full-flight simulators because they concentrate on particular aircraft functions rather than attempting to reproduce an entire flight experience. This makes them suitable for practising cockpit operations, aircraft-system procedures and selected mission tasks repeatedly in a controlled environment. The VR configuration can provide an immersive training environment for combat manoeuvres and large-force mission preparation while avoiding the operational risks associated with live aircraft. Greater simulator use can also reduce fuel consumption, aircraft wear and training-related flying hours. Threye has separately developed an AR/VR training solution for Mirage-2000 maintenance personnel. The ground-training system combines physical components, electrical systems and digital simulation to allow technicians to practise inspections, servicing and fault diagnosis. Features include programmable faults, procedural training, AR guidance, real-time feedback and multi-user networking. According to Threye, the technical training system has already been accepted and deployed by the IAF, with some training activities costing less than 5% of conventional methods involving operational aircraft.
