The United States Air Force has received its first OA-1K Skyraider II, the result of a collaboration between L3Harris and Air Tractor. Purpose-built for Special Operations, the Skyraider II combines the roles of a light attack aircraft and an ISR platform, thus meeting the modern demands of multi-domain battlefields. Engineered to excel in harsh and undeveloped environments, it enables Special Operations Forces to carry out missions in areas with limited infrastructure.

Equipped with advanced sensors, targeting modules, and a robust weapons suite, the OA-1K is adept at supporting direct action, overwatch, and actionable intelligence missions. Its design emphasizes rapid deployment, low maintenance, and the flexibility to switch mission profiles quickly. The ability to operate from rough airstrips offers SOF an edge, making it possible to insert air power where larger platforms cannot go.

This new addition is a key element in fulfilling requirements outlined by the U.S. National Defense Strategy, strengthening the ability to confront asymmetric and hybrid threats. Its versatility enhances SOF’s capabilities to shape the operational environment, execute joint missions, and outpace adversaries in complex theaters.
