A new industrial support arrangement between Warsaw and GE Aerospace will give Poland a domestic depot-level MRO capability for the F404-GE-102 engines of its FA-50 combat aircraft. GE will work with Poland’s Wojskowe Zakłady Lotnicze 2 to provide deeper maintenance, repair and overhaul services for the propulsion systems.The initiative is linked to Poland’s expanding FA-50 acquisition. The Polish fleet is projected to grow to 48 aircraft by early 2029, while 12 jets have already been delivered. WZL-2 chief executive Jakub Gazda said the partnership would strengthen Poland’s ability to maintain greater operational independence as military requirements change.For GE Aerospace, the agreement represents another expansion of its industrial footprint in Poland, where the company has maintained a presence in Europe for more than 30 years. GE has approximately 2,300 specialists working across five sites in the country.The F404-GE-102 is the engine that powers the FA-50’s supersonic performance. GE states that the aircraft can reach Mach 1.5, operate at altitudes up to 48,000 feet and achieve a range of as much as 1,000 nautical miles. The F404 family has a large international user base, with more than 4,000 engines supplied worldwide.According to GE, F404-family engines across the global fleet have accumulated over 13 million flight hours. Approximately 300 engines are fitted to FA-50, T-50 and TA-50 aircraft. Establishing Polish depot-level support would therefore provide a dedicated domestic maintenance backbone as Warsaw continues expanding its FA-50 fleet.
