A security alert in Britain has prompted the US Air Force to pull its 12 B-1 Lancer bombers out of RAF Fairford and relocate them to the United States. The decision followed intelligence indicating an Iran-backed threat against the Gloucestershire facility, after UK authorities arrested six people allegedly connected to a planned attack. The withdrawal removes a key forward base for US long-range strike operations in Europe. Fairford provides the B-1 fleet with a geographically advantageous location for missions by shortening transit times and allowing faster deployment. According to reporting cited by ABC News, the incident also resulted in heightened security measures at other European military sites.US officials confirmed that the bombers had returned to their home installations in America and maintained that the United States retains its global precision-strike capability. Flight-tracking data showed the aircraft departing Fairford on Sunday. The relocation does not prevent the B-1 from carrying out missions abroad. The aircraft can operate from US bases and use aerial refueling to reach operational areas around the world, according to US officials.
