V2X has secured an $87 million US Navy contract to refurbish and upgrade SUU-79 weapon pylons fitted to F/A-18E/F Super Hornet and EA-18G Growler aircraft.
These pylons form a critical part of the aircraft’s underwing equipment because they allow the fighters to carry and deploy weapons and other external stores. V2X has been involved in sustaining Navy F/A-18 systems for many years, including the maintenance of their pylons.
The new agreement calls for the company to overhaul the SUU-79 units and apply modern repair and lifecycle-support techniques. The work is intended to extend the components’ usable service life while helping the Navy maintain the readiness of its frontline carrier aviation fleet.
Production and overhaul activities will take place in Indianapolis, Indiana. The contract is expected to be completed by January 2030.
The programme demonstrates how long-term sustainment remains important to military aviation. Rather than relying solely on new equipment, the Navy is investing in the modernization of existing aircraft components so that established platforms can remain effective and operational for longer periods.
