Merlin Labs has successfully completed an important milestone in developing autonomous flight technology for the C-130J Super Hercules transport aircraft. The preliminary design review validated the proposed system architecture and its ability to safely integrate autonomy functions into the aircraft. The initiative is part of a five-year, $104-million effort aimed at introducing reduced-crew capabilities for US Special Operations Command aircraft. After entering the critical design stage, the program will move toward integration, testing, and flight trials on a modified aircraft later this year. The AI-driven autonomy platform is expected to enhance operational safety and could eventually be applied to multiple aircraft in the special operations fleet.
