L3Harris Technologies has secured a multi-year contract to carry out extensive upgrades on the Royal Moroccan Air Force’s fleet of C-130 military transport aircraft. The modernization project is set to begin in 2025 at the company’s Waco, Texas facility and will extend through 2029.
Under the contract, the C-130 aircraft will receive significant improvements, including advanced avionics systems, overhauled engines, structural maintenance at the depot level, and various performance upgrades. These enhancements are expected to greatly increase aircraft availability and reliability across Morocco’s air operations, particularly in tactical missions, humanitarian deployments, and special operations support.
Known for its durability and adaptability, the C-130 is capable of operating in austere environments and from unprepared runways, including dirt airstrips. The platform can be reconfigured to suit different mission types—ranging from personnel transport and medical evacuation to carrying armored vehicles or utility helicopters. With a powerful rear ramp and airdrop capabilities, the aircraft can deliver up to 42,000 pounds of cargo mid-air. Its high-flotation landing gear ensures safe operation on rugged and uneven terrain.
This upgrade will solidify the C-130’s role as a key strategic asset for the Royal Moroccan Air Force well into the next decade.
