GE Aerospace and Magellan Aerospace are working together to establish an in-country support capability for the F414 fighter engine, creating the foundation for long-term sustainment should Canada adopt the Saab Gripen E. The proposed maintenance, repair, and overhaul center would enable Canadian technicians to perform advanced engine servicing locally using licensed expertise and dedicated facilities. Domestic sustainment would shorten maintenance turnaround times, improve aircraft availability, and strengthen Canada’s independent aerospace support capacity. The partnership also supports broader efforts to expand advanced manufacturing, technical training, and engineering expertise within Canada’s defense sector. With the F414 engine already operating successfully across multiple international fighter fleets, establishing local support infrastructure would provide strategic benefits while reinforcing Canada’s long-term defense industrial objectives.
