Elbit Systems has received a $235 million order for PULS rocket artillery systems and EXTRA-MR medium-range precision-guided rockets from an undisclosed European customer. The agreement, which is expected to be fulfilled over three years, also covers related artillery platforms and integrated logistics support. While the Israeli manufacturer has not officially named the purchasing country, the Israeli outlet Globes has reported that Azerbaijan is the customer. The procurement coincides with stronger defence ties between Israel and Azerbaijan, including the recent opening of a rifle production plant in Azerbaijan by Israeli company Ari Arms. Azerbaijan has a history of acquiring Israeli military technology, including Hermes 900 surveillance and reconnaissance drones, LORA ballistic missiles, Harop loitering munitions and Spike anti-tank missiles. Several of these systems were used during the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Elbit’s PULS platform is designed to support multiple artillery missions through a single launcher capable of firing rockets, tactical ballistic missiles and loitering munitions. Depending on the ammunition used, the system offers reported ranges of up to 300 kilometres. Its onboard navigation and mission-computing equipment supports rapid firing preparation, including operations from mobile positions. The launcher can be integrated onto either wheeled or tracked vehicles, allowing operators to adapt the system to different operational requirements. The EXTRA-MR ammunition included in the agreement provides an additional precision-strike capability against targets located up to 80 kilometres away.
