Lockheed Awards L3Harris $250M Contract for Record GMLRS Motor Output — L3Harris will produce a record quantity of propulsion units for standard-range GMLRS rockets under a $250 million agreement awarded by Lockheed Martin. The work is planned for the 60,000-square-foot Arsenal of Freedom facility in Camden, Arkansas, expected to open later in 2026 with automated equipment and robotics to streamline solid rocket motor production. A longstanding supplier of GMLRS propulsion units, L3Harris has doubled production in recent years and also provides the system’s electronic safe-and-arm device and proximity sensor. The precision-guided rockets are fired from HIMARS and M270 launchers, while Lockheed Martin is working toward a production rate of 14,000 rockets per year to serve US forces and international customers. The new award follows a December 2025 contract worth up to $200 million for propulsion units for the GMLRS Insensitive Munition variant. In August 2024, Lockheed Martin and General Dynamics also announced plans to establish an additional solid rocket motor source to support the program’s expanding production requirements.
