Thales UK has demonstrated its new remotely operated missile-launching capability by conducting the first live firing of a Lightweight Multirole Missile from its remote launcher. Designed to operate across land and maritime platforms, the system aims to give military units greater flexibility in deploying air-defence weapons while reducing the need to expose personnel to potential threats. The live trial involved firing an LMM from the newly developed launcher and also tested the company’s ForceShield command-and-control architecture. Its Agile C4I engagement control technology and multi-mission fire-control system coordinated the missile launch, demonstrating the integration of remote weapon operation with command-and-control functions. The capability could allow forces to deploy air-defence firepower from different platforms while maintaining greater operational flexibility and reducing personnel exposure in contested environments.
