The Israel Defense Forces are set to strengthen their attack helicopter fleet through the acquisition of 12 AH-64E Apache helicopters under an agreement signed by Israel’s Ministry of Defense and the US Department of Defense. The purchase received government approval for funding worth 1 billion shekels, or about $324 million, ending a prolonged delay linked to budgetary disputes between the finance and defense ministries. Deliveries are anticipated in the early 2030s. Washington had previously approved a potential $3.8 billion package in January 2026 for 30 Apaches, together with associated engines, radar systems, targeting equipment and support services. The AH-64E features a tandem-seat configuration, two engines, advanced communications and the ability to coordinate with unmanned aircraft. Its weapons include Hellfire missiles, 2.75-inch rockets and a 30mm chain gun. Israel already operates around 43 AH-64A and AH-64D helicopters. Besides supporting ground forces, these aircraft have also been used to counter unmanned aerial threats.
