Sweden Funds Next-Generation Gripen Control Computer Under $131M Saab Deal — Sweden has contracted Saab to develop a replacement flight-control computer for its Gripen combat aircraft under an agreement valued at 1.3 billion kronor, or about $131 million. The new unit is intended to preserve the fighter’s long-term operational reliability and ensure continued access to essential components, with deliveries expected in 2030. The flight-control computer plays a central role in managing aircraft movement and manoeuvring. The award complements other Swedish initiatives to maintain and strengthen domestic Gripen expertise. Saab and GKN Aerospace are expanding their cooperation on engine-related engineering and technical support for the Gripen E/F, building on existing work for older variants. Sweden has also funded fleet maintenance, component repair, software support, mission-system upgrades and training to sustain Gripen operations over the coming years.
