L3Harris Technologies has reached another major milestone for Viper Shield by completing its first two-ship flight test on F-16 fighter aircraft. The achievement represents further progress toward full-rate production, with eight nations having selected the electronic warfare system.
The trials were held at Edwards Air Force Base, California, using an F-16C and an F-16D flying together with Viper Shield equipment. The company said the test provided a realistic demonstration of how the system performs during coordinated multi-aircraft missions.
During the evaluation, Viper Shield was tested for its ability to detect, identify, and counter electromagnetic threats. Engineers also examined how the system operates with the F-16’s avionics during different mission profiles. Particular attention was given to its digital architecture and real-time electronic warfare response.
L3Harris is increasing production to support a planned fleet of 233 Viper Shield systems. With eight countries already selecting the technology, the company is expanding its manufacturing line to handle rising international demand.
