BAE Systems Aligns Tridon Mk 2 With India’s ‘Make in India’ Strategy BAE Systems has indicated its willingness to establish local manufacturing for the Tridon Mk 2 mobile air-defence system should India select the platform for its upcoming V-SHORADS programme. The company intends to collaborate with Indian industry, supporting the government’s localisation objectives while transferring manufacturing expertise. Built around an upgraded Bofors 40 mm gun, Tridon Mk 2 is designed to defeat helicopters, fighter aircraft, cruise missiles, and increasingly important drone threats. India’s recent focus on layered air defence following evolving regional security challenges has created new opportunities for gun-based close-range air-defence systems. Although no industrial partner has been announced, the proposal demonstrates BAE Systems’ commitment to long-term participation in India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem. If selected, Tridon Mk 2 would complement systems such as Akash, MR-SAM, and S-400, strengthening India’s multi-layered air-defence architecture.
