The Astra Mk3 missile program represents India’s effort to field a next-generation beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile equipped with ramjet propulsion and advanced electronic warfare resistance. Upcoming airborne and live-fire testing phases will determine the missile’s operational readiness and validate capabilities such as long-range engagement, high-energy terminal interception, and ECCM performance. If successful, Astra Mk3 could significantly strengthen the Indian Air Force’s stand-off combat capability against high-value airborne targets including AWACS and electronic warfare aircraft.
