3D-printed black ceramics that can survive harsh environments may soon be used in American hypersonic weapons and airplanes. Dark ceramics, which are perfect for hypersonic vehicles because of their endurance and enhanced resistance to deterioration, are being created by researchers at the Purdue Applied Research Institute (PARI) using additive manufacturing. The team claims to be able to create black ceramics with high-resolution surfaces and accurate sizes and forms using digital light processing (DLP) 3D printers.
