UK Strengthens Artillery Modernisation Through Rheinmetall’s RCH 155 Programme Rheinmetall has expanded its role in the United Kingdom’s artillery modernisation by securing a high-value contract to supply weapon systems for 72 RCH 155 self-propelled howitzers. The contract covers elevating masses, onboard equipment, technical services, and manufacturing activities at the company’s new Telford production facility. By sourcing British steel from Sheffield Forgemasters, the programme reinforces domestic industrial participation while generating hundreds of skilled jobs across the UK defence supply chain. The RCH 155 acquisition follows ARTEC’s earlier £1 billion contract under the Mobile Fires Platform programme, replacing the British Army’s ageing AS-90 fleet after several units were transferred to Ukraine. Mounted on the Boxer 8×8 platform, the fully automated turret enables operation by only two crew members while providing exceptional mobility, survivability, and firepower. Rheinmetall also highlights the platform’s unique ability to fire accurately while moving using advanced stabilisation technology. Carrying greater ammunition than conventional wheeled artillery systems and capable of engaging targets beyond 70 km, the RCH 155 is expected to significantly improve the UK Army’s long-range precision fire capabilities throughout the next decade.
