At a K9 User Club event in Estonia, Hanwha Aerospace revealed a concept designed to improve the responsiveness and precision of K9 artillery operations through UAV integration. The proposed system links K9 howitzers with VTOL drones that would serve as forward reconnaissance platforms. Operating ahead of the artillery formation, the UAVs could detect and follow hostile targets before calculating their locations. The resulting coordinates would then be sent to the K9’s fire-control architecture, allowing the artillery unit to engage targets more rapidly. By combining airborne sensing with mobile artillery, Hanwha’s concept seeks to shorten the sensor-to-shooter cycle and enhance the accuracy of battlefield fires.
