Poland has signed a major defence contract worth approximately $2.07 billion for the procurement of 146 additional Borsuk infantry fighting vehicles, further accelerating the modernization of its land forces. The agreement, awarded to a consortium led by the Polish Armaments Group and Huta Stalowa Wola, expands upon an earlier order for 111 vehicles signed in March 2025. The acquisition forms part of a broader $16.53 billion military procurement package that also includes Krab self-propelled howitzers, Rak self-propelled mortars, and support vehicles for Homar-K rocket launchers. Once the latest batch is delivered, Poland’s Borsuk inventory will rise to 257 vehicles, sufficient to equip four mechanized infantry battalions along with reserve and training units. Originally intended to field 588 vehicles by 2035, Poland has significantly expanded its requirement to more than 1,000 units following lessons learned from the conflict in Ukraine. Developed domestically to replace aging BMP-1 vehicles, the Borsuk combines enhanced protection, mobility, and firepower, featuring a modern unmanned turret, a 30mm Bushmaster cannon, advanced fire-control systems, and optional Spike anti-tank missiles.
