Oshkosh Defense has begun work on the first Kaaiman patrol vehicle prototype for the Netherlands, modifying its Joint Light Tactical Vehicle to meet the needs of Dutch forces in coastal and challenging terrain. The Kaaiman forms part of a 150-vehicle Dutch Expeditionary Patrol Vehicle programme selected in 2025, with deliveries expected to start in 2028. Using an existing vehicle design and manufacturing line is intended to speed development while keeping the platform aligned with Dutch operational requirements.

**Vehicle Configuration:** The DXPV is based on the Oshkosh JLTV, a light tactical vehicle designed to protect personnel while providing mobility. Although tailored for expeditionary and littoral missions, it remains a wheeled land vehicle rather than a dedicated amphibious platform. Planned adaptations include resistance to corrosion and saltwater, upgraded suspension, improved cross-country mobility, modular protection and integrated mission equipment. The design is intended to allow additional weapons and sensors to be installed in the future.

**Dutch Acquisition Programme:** The Netherlands chose the vehicle under its Future Littoral All Terrain Mobility-Patrol Vehicle initiative, which aims to provide a patrol capability for difficult coastal and amphibious operating environments. In January, a DXPV order worth an estimated $25 million to $30 million was placed, following the purchase of 150 vehicles in April 2025. Oshkosh’s prototype work will tailor the established JLTV platform for Dutch service before deliveries are expected to begin in 2028.
