Norway’s Kongsberg will equip Poland’s K2 tank fleet and associated support vehicles with PROTECTOR RS4 remote weapon stations under a new agreement with the Polish Armed Forces. The contract covers three vehicle configurations: the K2 main battle tank, armored recovery vehicle and combat engineering vehicle. These remotely operated weapon systems enable personnel to engage targets while remaining under the protection of their vehicles, reducing exposure to hostile fire. The package includes initial spare parts, operator training and additional product support, with the first systems intended for vehicle integration expected to arrive in spring 2027. Financial details and the total quantity ordered remain undisclosed. The procurement forms part of Poland’s broader military modernization program. In September, state-owned Wojskowe Zakłady Motoryzacyjne reached an agreement with Hyundai Rotem to develop domestic servicing and overhaul facilities for the K2’s DV27K engines, alongside technology transfer and potential future tank-production capabilities. Poland also received 28 additional K2 Black Panther tanks in August, taking its fleet to 208. By 2032, Warsaw intends to operate approximately 1,600 tanks drawn from the US-made M1 Abrams, South Korean K2 and German Leopard families. The buildup is designed to reinforce national defense against possible Russian threats, while Poland plans to devote 4.8% of its economic output to defense in 2027.
