The British government has approved the procurement of 72 advanced RCH 155 wheeled howitzers to modernize its artillery forces and replace the aging AS-90 fleet. Built on the Boxer armored vehicle platform, the highly automated system can fire on the move while maintaining precision accuracy through advanced stabilization technology. The RCH 155 offers improved mobility, survivability, and operational range compared to older artillery systems, with firing ranges exceeding 70 kilometers depending on ammunition type. The acquisition also strengthens UK defense manufacturing, with major components set to be produced domestically by Rheinmetall and KNDS UK. Officials say the project will support hundreds of jobs and significantly improve the British Army’s artillery capability following the transfer of AS-90 systems to Ukraine.
