AM General is redesigning key elements of the long-serving Humvee to extend the platform into the modern battlefield. The company’s approach combines mechanical upgrades with digital capabilities and is divided into three major stages. At the heart of the first stage is a 250-horsepower engine paired with a new transmission and long-travel suspension. The upgraded powerplant produces over 745 newton-meters, equivalent to 550 pound-feet, of torque.Fuel flexibility is another feature of the modernization. The engine can operate using JP-8 aviation fuel, F-24 and conventional diesel, allowing the vehicle to retain compatibility with commonly used military fuels while also supporting standard diesel operation.
