EDGE Group of the UAE is strengthening its industrial footprint in Brazil through a new agreement with Safran Electronics & Defense covering solid rocket motor development and production. The project will be carried out through EDGE’s Brazilian subsidiary SIATT, headquartered in São José dos Campos, with the objective of building local expertise in propulsion and weapon guidance technologies. The planned cooperation is expected to cover several defence technology areas. These include guided weapons, loitering munitions and coastal-defence solutions, together with key components such as inertial navigation systems, GNSS receivers, actuators, optronic sights and seekers. EDGE and Safran said the arrangement is expected to support Brazil’s efforts to increase domestic control over defence supply chains. The technologies could contribute to programmes operated by the Brazilian armed forces, including SisGAAz, the Blue Amazon Management System used for maritime surveillance and management. For Safran, the partnership adds another chapter to an industrial relationship with Brazil that stretches back almost 50 years. Recent Brazilian ActivitiesThe agreement comes after EDGE made several moves to establish a broader industrial base in Brazil. The group acquired local engineering company AKAER, bringing additional design and engineering capabilities into its Brazilian operations. EDGE has also opened a new production headquarters for SIATT. Its activities have expanded into other strategic fields as well. The company has created a cyber-defence centre with the Brazilian Army and entered into additional maritime project arrangements with the Brazilian Navy. Together, these initiatives indicate a broader push to develop locally supported defence technologies and manufacturing capabilities in the Brazilian market.
