KNDS Ammo France has been awarded a long-term contract exceeding 100 million euros to equip France’s upgraded Leclerc tanks with Shard kinetic-energy ammunition.
The seven-year agreement envisions delivery of thousands of armor-piercing fin-stabilized discarding sabot rounds starting in 2029. Eurenco will supply double-base propellant and sabot skirts for the program.
Compared with the OFL F1, Shard offers improved penetration through a newly engineered tungsten core and elongated design. Its increased muzzle velocity is aimed at compressing interceptor response times, boosting its ability to defeat modern armored vehicles protected by hard-kill systems.
