Rosoboronexport has been given a $248 million contract by the Indian Ministry of Defense to supply the army’s T-72 Ural main combat tanks with new engines. The agreement calls for the Russian state-owned weaponry manufacturer to supply 1,000 horsepower engines for the Soviet-era automobiles in New Delhi.Approximately 2,500 tanks that have been equipped with the military’s historical 780 horsepower engines since the fleet’s creation in the 1970s are currently in service.
