The Polish Armed Forces have received another batch of 28 K2 Black Panther tanks, bringing the country’s total operational fleet to 208 vehicles. The delivery represents the first shipment under Poland’s latest agreement with Hyundai Rotem, valued at roughly 9 trillion South Korean won.The new tanks supplement the 180 K2s obtained under the initial procurement agreement from 2022. A significant portion of the latest vehicles is expected to strengthen the 16th Mechanized Division, an important formation positioned to defend Poland’s northeastern territory and support NATO’s eastern defensive posture.Poland’s current agreement provides for 180 additional tanks. The delivery schedule calls for 116 K2GF vehicles to arrive by 2027, followed by 64 K2PL tanks between 2028 and 2030.Beyond the main battle tanks, the deal provides 81 K2-based support vehicles. The package includes bridge-laying, recovery, and engineering variants that can improve the logistical and battlefield support available to armored formations.The program also has a significant domestic industrial component. Bumar-Łabędy will support final assembly of 61 K2PL tanks and participate in the integration of locally sourced equipment.The K2PL configuration is expected to feature enhanced side armor, counter-UAS capabilities, and active protection technology, giving the locally adapted vehicles additional survivability against modern battlefield threats.Poland’s continued investment in K2 tanks is part of a wider military modernization campaign accelerated by the transfer of older Soviet-designed armored systems to Ukraine. Warsaw ultimately plans to operate close to 900 modern tanks, combining K2, M1A2 Abrams, and Leopard 2 platforms.
