Argentina has formalized an agreement with the United States to procure 235 Stryker 8×8 armored vehicles, strengthening its plans to modernize the Argentine Army’s mechanized capabilities.The letter of acceptance was signed by Defence Minister Lt. Gen. Carlos Presti and US Ambassador Peter Lamelas under Washington’s Foreign Military Sales and Excess Defense Articles programs.The acquisition covers several Stryker configurations. These include infantry transport, command-and-control, fire-support, and medical evacuation variants, allowing the Argentine Army to build a more versatile mechanized fleet.The planned purchase follows the delivery of an initial eight vehicles during late 2025 and early 2026. Reports indicate that Argentina expects to receive an initial group of 50 additional vehicles after they undergo technical evaluation at Fort Cavazos in Texas.Developed by General Dynamics for the US Army, the Stryker is a family of eight-wheeled armored vehicles designed for rapid mobility and battlefield support. The vehicle is roughly 7 meters long and weighs more than 16 tons.Protection is provided through armored construction, with certain configurations incorporating ceramic armor and mine-resistant hull features. The platform can be fitted with different weapon systems according to its role, ranging from heavy machine guns and grenade launchers to larger cannon and gun systems.A 350-horsepower Caterpillar C7 diesel engine powers the vehicle. Under suitable operating conditions, the Stryker can reach approximately 97 kilometers per hour and travel up to about 499 kilometers before refueling.The planned procurement could provide Argentina with a substantially larger modern wheeled armored vehicle fleet and strengthen the mobility of its mechanized forces.
