Sweden has procured four C-390 Millennium aircraft from Embraer, joining Austria and the Netherlands in a coordinated NATO procurement effort. The collaboration emphasizes standardization, shared logistics, and greater interoperability across allied air forces that have adopted the Brazilian-built platform.

As part of the deal, Sweden gains access to Embraer’s comprehensive training and lifecycle support packages, ensuring seamless integration into its air mobility fleet. The contract also includes seven purchase options, paving the way for future European customers to expand the region’s C-390 fleet.

The Millennium has seen growing success worldwide, with Brazil, Portugal, and Hungary already operating the type. Embraer reports an impressive 93 percent mission capability rate and over 99 percent mission completion — key metrics that reinforce the aircraft’s reliability for military and humanitarian operations alike.

Capable of transporting 26 tons of cargo and performing missions such as medevac, search and rescue, and airdrops, the C-390 can also take off from unpaved or temporary runways. The KC-390 variant extends its role further with full air-to-air refueling capabilities.
