In support of its F-16 Block 70 proposal for the Philippine Multi-Role Fighter program, Lockheed Martin is expanding its partnership with the country’s defense sector. The company is teaming up with Southern Methodist University’s advanced manufacturing centers to introduce capabilities in digital modeling, simulation, and high-tech production.
This collaboration will extend into fields such as virtual and augmented reality, robotics, automation, and artificial intelligence. Additionally, the initiative will support business incubation, government-backed projects, academic programs, and the establishment of a research lab and training facility to drive innovation and intellectual property creation in the Philippines.
The F-16 Block 70 stands out as the most capable iteration of the iconic fighter, integrating the APG-83 AESA radar, a high-resolution tactical display, and advanced targeting systems like the Sniper Pod and Legion-ES IRST. These systems enhance detection, targeting, and operational awareness for pilots.
Featuring an extended 12,000-hour service life, the Block 70 also benefits from conformal fuel tanks and an upgraded engine, delivering longer range while maintaining optimal aerodynamic performance.
