In a major contract worth $260 million, Airbus Defence and Space has selected Elbit Systems to equip Germany’s A400M fleet with advanced self-defense capabilities. The agreement includes the delivery of the J-MUSIC DIRCM system over a six-year timeline.

This initiative stems from a recent decision by Germany’s defense procurement authority, which commissioned Airbus to retrofit 23 A400M aircraft with the Israeli-made DIRCM system during regular maintenance cycles. These aircraft serve vital roles in tactical operations and casualty evacuation missions.

Elbit’s J-MUSIC system will undergo certification this summer, and installations are scheduled to continue until 2032. This move represents a significant step toward improving the operational security of German transport aircraft in conflict-prone regions.

J-MUSIC is engineered to autonomously detect and counter heat-seeking missiles using a combination of high-resolution sensors and laser-based jamming. Designed for efficiency and adaptability, the system neutralizes MANPADS threats without pilot input, providing round-the-clock protection.
