Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), India’s leading aerospace and defense organization, has taken a crucial step to enhance the survivability and combat effectiveness of its Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) fleet. HAL has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the co-development of an advanced Electronic Warfare (EW) Suite, a project led by its Strategic Electronics Research & Design Centre (SLRDC) in Hyderabad. This initiative represents a significant move toward strengthening India’s indigenous defense capabilities. The LCH, developed by HAL, is specifically designed for high-altitude combat and is capable of performing in diverse and demanding environments, from mountainous terrains along India’s borders to low-altitude operations. Armed with a range of weaponry, including air-to-air missiles, anti-tank guided missiles, and rockets, the LCH is optimized for both offensive and defensive roles. However, the evolving landscape of modern warfare underscores the need for a sophisticated EW system to ensure mission success and aircraft survivability.
