To strengthen digital battlefield awareness, the US Army is testing a new capability called the Spectrum Situational Awareness System (S2AS). This innovative tool enables soldiers to detect and analyze signals across the electromagnetic spectrum with greater clarity and accuracy.

S2AS allows users to identify electronic interference, observe signal emissions from field command posts, and detect ISR-related threats in real time. It enhances the Army’s ability to manage spectrum operations effectively.

Beyond detection, the system can precisely locate the origin of suspicious signal activity—whether it’s from allied units, friendly platforms, or enemy sources. This traceability improves operational coordination and minimizes the risk of misidentification.

By giving warfighters better insight into their electronic surroundings, S2AS aims to reduce vulnerabilities and improve electromagnetic situational control during missions.
