Leonardo’s C-27J tactical transport aircraft, which has accumulated more than 270,000 flight hours worldwide, will soon be joining the fleet of Aramco in Saudi Arabia. Leonardo is set to deliver two C-27Js configured for multi-mission and firefighting tasks to support operations such as cargo transport, emergency evacuations, oil spill containment, and aerial firefighting. The aircraft will be operated and maintained by Mukamalah Aviation Company, known as Aloula Aviation, with deliveries beginning in 2027.
This milestone marks the first civilian order for the C-27J in a multi-mission firefighting configuration and introduces the aircraft to the Middle Eastern civil market. With this addition, the C-27J now has 95 aircraft on order from 20 operators worldwide. Leonardo’s ongoing investment in advanced avionics and enhanced mission flexibility continues to position the C-27J as a highly adaptable platform for evolving mission requirements.
The deal builds on Leonardo’s successful collaboration with Aramco in helicopter operations and now extends to fixed-wing capabilities.
The C-27J Next Generation Fire Fighter is equipped with the MAFFS II modular firefighting system, a unique roll-on/roll-off unit that can be installed in 90 minutes and refilled in less than 10 minutes. Its 7,500-liter tank and precision drop capabilities make it an effective firefighting asset, especially in rugged, hard-to-reach areas. With STOL performance and high cruising speeds, the C-27J can quickly reach emergency sites where other aircraft may not operate efficiently. The platform’s flexibility also supports disaster response and fire prevention efforts, delivering a cost-effective and sustainable firefighting solution.
