Bulgaria is thinking of replacing the Soviet 2S1 “Gvozdika” 122-mm self-propelled artillery systems with the Caesar self-propelled 155mm howitzer. Along with the IRIS-T air defense system, the French system is one of two defense proposals under the European Defence Industry Reinforcement through Common Procurement Act (EDIRPA) initiative.The initiative makes it easier for EU member states to jointly purchase defense equipment, including partial reimbursements.
