Kuwait’s defense modernization program includes the acquisition of the NASAMS air defense system, developed through collaboration between Kongsberg and Raytheon. The system is designed to strengthen national air defense by providing a flexible and layered protection network against modern aerial threats. NASAMS combines advanced radar systems, distributed sensors, and mobile launch units capable of launching precision-guided missiles to intercept incoming aircraft, drones, and cruise missiles. It is capable of engaging targets at distances of around 60 kilometers while detecting threats from much farther ranges. The system is already deployed by several countries, including members of NATO and allied partners, reflecting its effectiveness in modern warfare environments. Kuwait’s adoption of NASAMS is intended to enhance the protection of critical infrastructure, military installations, and civilian areas against evolving aerial risks.
