The VL-SRSAM missile system is nearing induction into the Indian Navy after successful trials. It offers improved range of about 80 km and high-speed interception capability at Mach 4.5. Designed for vertical launch, it can engage threats from any direction instantly without mechanical aiming. The system is capable of countering missiles, aircraft, and drones at low and medium altitudes. It will form part of India’s layered naval defence strategy, working alongside long-range missiles and close-in weapon systems to protect warships from coordinated multi-directional attacks.
