The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has carried out the maiden test flight of its Integrated Air Defence Weapon System (IADWS), a cutting-edge platform blending missile interceptors with a laser-based weapon.
Built as a layered defense shield, the IADWS links multiple elements, including quick reaction surface-to-air missiles and short-range interceptors, to deliver all-round protection against different classes of aerial threats.
What makes the system especially noteworthy is its directed-energy laser component, offering the capability to neutralize agile and low-altitude aerial targets with high precision and speed.
The successful test highlights India’s push towards advanced indigenous air defense technologies, ensuring both versatility and rapid-response capabilities in confronting modern aerial challenges.
