The United States has approved a potential $3 billion Foreign Military Sales package to support sustainment of the Royal Saudi Air Force’s F-15 fighter fleet, following a green light from the US State Department.
Saudi Arabia’s request encompasses a wide range of sustainment items, including spare and repair parts, consumables, repair-and-return services, ground support equipment, and both classified and unclassified software, aimed at maintaining high levels of fleet readiness.
With more than 200 aircraft in service, Saudi Arabia fields the second-largest F-15 fleet globally, surpassed only by the US Air Force.
A DSCA notice indicated that the proposed sale would involve multiple defense suppliers, with no prime contractor specified.
The approval supports the defense needs of a major non-NATO ally, a designation Saudi Arabia received in November 2025, granting preferential access to US defense equipment without extending NATO mutual defense guarantees.
The F-15 sustainment package complements other recent US-Saudi defense engagements. Riyadh has signaled interest in purchasing up to 48 F-35 fighters, a proposal still under review by US authorities. In December 2025, Washington approved two potential $1 billion FMS cases to sustain Saudi helicopter and aviation fleets, and earlier this month cleared a potential $9 billion sale of PAC-3 MSE missile interceptors.
