Elbit Systems of Israel has announced the award of new European contracts worth around $150 million for its J-MUSIC Directed Infrared Countermeasures (DIRCM) solution, aimed at enhancing aircraft survivability against modern missile threats. The contracts reflect Europe’s continued investment in advanced self-protection systems for military aviation.
The first contract involves the integration of J-MUSIC on high-value aircraft platforms operated by an unnamed European customer. Further orders will see the DIRCM system installed across the transport aircraft fleets of NATO member states in Europe, improving safety during long-range transport, troop deployment, and humanitarian missions.
These agreements build on Elbit’s earlier success in the region, following a $260-million deal with Airbus Defence and Space to equip the German Air Force’s A400M fleet with DIRCM technology. The expanding portfolio underscores Elbit’s role as a key supplier of airborne defensive aids to European air forces.
The J-MUSIC DIRCM system provides protection against infrared-homing surface-to-air missiles, particularly shoulder-launched MANPADS. Using a combination of precision laser jamming and advanced imaging, the system disrupts missile guidance and significantly enhances aircraft survivability. Its compact, open-architecture design allows flexible installation, supports single or multiple turret configurations, and enables integration with a wide range of missile warning systems for both military and civilian operators.
