The United States has embarked on an unprecedented missile defense program valued at $151 billion, named SHIELD (Scalable Homeland Innovative Enterprise Layered Defense), commonly referred to as the Golden Dome. This historic initiative seeks to develop a comprehensive and layered protective network over the continental United States, capable of defending against the full range of modern missile threats. The system is specifically designed to address challenges posed by ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and the rapidly evolving class of hypersonic weapons.

An initial budget of $13 billion has been allocated to launch the program, focusing on foundational development activities and the integration of infrastructure components necessary to support this expansive defense network. Early efforts include research into advanced missile detection and interception technologies, as well as creating interoperable systems that can work together to form a cohesive shield.

By establishing the Golden Dome, the U.S. aims to stay ahead of emerging threats and strengthen its national security posture. This bold program underscores a commitment to protecting the homeland through innovative technology and layered defense tactics, ensuring a resilient barrier against an increasingly complex missile threat environment.
