Indra is moving forward with plans to develop up to 147 Tarsis unmanned aircraft for Spain as part of Madrid’s effort to establish a domestically produced tactical UAS capability. The aircraft are being procured through the Special Modernization Program for Medium-Range Unmanned Aerial Systems, or SANTAM. Valued at 364 million euros ($420 million), the programme is designed to provide capabilities for the Spanish Army, Navy and Air and Space Force. The Tarsis programme is expected to give Spain an indigenous tactical unmanned-aircraft solution while strengthening the country’s defence-industrial base in the UAS sector. Indra is continuing development work ahead of the planned production phase. The first deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2028, marking the expected start of fielding for Spain’s new domestically developed tactical unmanned aerial systems.
