KNDS and Poland’s WB GROUP are exploring a partnership that could introduce the KNDS 105 LG lightweight artillery system into Poland’s defence industry and connect it with the country’s TOPAZ fire-control architecture. The companies have signed a Letter of Intent covering possible procurement, domestic integration and long-term support for the Polish Armed Forces. The planned solution would combine the 105 LG with Polish technologies and TOPAZ, creating a network-enabled artillery system tailored to national military requirements. The companies have not yet announced a formal procurement contract or the number of guns that could eventually be ordered. As part of the proposed industrial cooperation, KNDS has expressed readiness to establish local production of ERG3 long-range ammunition for the weapon. Such localisation could increase the Polish industrial contribution to both the artillery platform and its ammunition supply chain if the project advances. The initiative adds to KNDS’ established industrial links with Poland, including work involving the maintenance and modernisation of Leopard 2 tanks. Lightweight 105mm GunThe 105 LG is a towed 105mm artillery piece developed for formations requiring conventional artillery support while facing restrictions on weight and logistics. Its combat weight is 1,650 kg (3,637 lb), allowing aerial transportation by medium helicopters and making it particularly relevant for airborne and air-mobile forces. With ERG3 ammunition, the system has a claimed range of as much as 17 km (10.56 miles). Its advertised firing performance includes six rounds within 15 seconds during a burst and more than 16 rounds per minute for sustained fire. KNDS states that national guard units are already operating the system. The gun has been designed with relatively simple operating and maintenance requirements, which the manufacturer says can help reduce training time and preserve readiness.
