Belgian firearms manufacturer FN Herstal has introduced the FN MAG Tactical with Long Rail, a modernized version of its globally renowned 7.62×51mm NATO machine gun designed to meet the demands of contemporary battlefield operations. Rather than redesigning the proven weapon, FN focused on improving ergonomics and expanding compatibility with modern sighting systems. The most visible enhancement is an extended monolithic top rail that provides significantly more mounting space for day, night, and thermal optics while retaining the weapon’s original iron sights. This allows operators to combine multiple targeting systems on a single platform, improving flexibility during diverse combat scenarios. Additional upgrades include a redesigned feed cover with ambidextrous controls, an automatic retention mechanism that keeps the cover open during loading procedures, and structural support capable of handling heavier optics. The machine gun also features an adjustable tactical buttstock that improves comfort, sight alignment, and adaptability for different users. Importantly, many of these enhancements are compatible with existing MAG, M240, and L7A2 variants already fielded by numerous armed forces worldwide.
