BAE Systems has received a Swedish order for four Bofors 57Mk3 naval guns, together with Bofors 57mm 3P programmable ammunition, strengthening the Swedish Navy’s shipborne firepower. The systems will replace existing guns on selected vessels, building on the 57Mk3’s established service aboard Visby- and Gävle-class corvettes. Delivery of the newly ordered equipment is planned for 2028–2029. The Bofors 57Mk3 is a multirole weapon designed to counter aerial threats, engage surface vessels and provide naval gunfire support. Its 3P ammunition features pre-fragmented projectiles and programmable proximity-fuzing options, allowing the gun to be configured for different target types. The system achieves a firing rate of four rounds per second and accommodates 120 rounds ready for immediate use. It can also switch ammunition types without delay, providing operational flexibility during engagements. Its maximum firing range is approximately 17 kilometers, or 10.6 miles. A computerized ammunition-loading system and muzzle-velocity radar support efficient weapon operation and accurate fire. The acquisition will contribute to Sweden’s continued modernization of its naval weapons inventory.
