Naval Group has selected Saft’s advanced lithium-ion battery technology to equip future generations of Barracuda and Scorpene submarines with more efficient underwater power systems. Compared with traditional battery technologies, lithium-ion systems provide longer submerged endurance, improved energy efficiency, faster charging cycles, and reduced maintenance requirements, allowing submarines to operate more effectively during extended missions. The collaboration strengthens a long-standing partnership between the two companies while supporting several domestic and international submarine construction programs. As underwater operations become increasingly demanding, advanced battery technologies are expected to play an essential role in improving submarine performance, endurance, and mission readiness.
