CSL Expands European Footprint Through Conoship Investment Cochin Shipyard Limited has entered the European ship-design market through the acquisition of a 23% equity interest in Dutch engineering and design company Conoship International Holding B.V. The transaction is worth €2.30 million, approximately ₹25.10 crore. Agreements covering the share purchase and future cooperation were signed on September 24, 2026. CSL’s Board had previously cleared the investment in January 2026, and government clearance was subsequently obtained from the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management. The transaction is expected to close within two months. Through the minority stake, CSL will gain access to Conoship’s specialized design and engineering capabilities and establish a stronger connection with European coastal and short-sea shipping markets. The two companies intend to work together on ship designs and technologies suited to emerging maritime requirements. Alternative fuels for short-sea vessels will be one of the areas under consideration as the shipping sector moves toward lower-emission operations. Their cooperation is also expected to cover vessels designed for coastal routes and inland waterways. Additional opportunities will be examined across marine, shipping and offshore industries. The arrangement combines CSL’s shipbuilding experience with Conoship’s European design expertise and market presence. For the Indian shipbuilder, the investment provides an avenue to participate in international design and technology opportunities while developing solutions for energy-efficient and lower-emission vessels.
