Hanwha Aerospace has introduced a €100-million initiative aimed at expanding Estonia’s defense production capabilities and strengthening cooperation between the two countries. The project includes building a sustainment and repair center that will maintain military equipment used by the Estonian armed forces, including K9 Thunder artillery systems and Chunmoo multiple rocket launchers. Another major part of the plan is the construction of a 40-millimeter ammunition manufacturing facility with the capacity to produce over 300,000 rounds each year. About €25 million of the total investment will be allocated for the ammunition factory, which will be developed in partnership with a local company. The initiative also includes training programs, equipment support services, and expanded research collaboration with Estonian defense firms. According to Hanwha Aerospace, the economic benefits from this investment and related projects could reach €160 million, increasing the potential overall cooperation value to approximately €260 million. Officials in Estonia stated that the project is closely connected to the country’s acquisition of the Chunmoo rocket artillery system and will help strengthen national defense manufacturing capabilities.
