Bharat Forge Limited’s agreement with the Ministry of Defence for supplying 12 indigenous 1.25 MW Marine Gas Turbine Generators represents a significant advancement in naval electrical power infrastructure. The generators are intended to enhance auxiliary power availability aboard Kolkata-class destroyers by replacing existing lower-capacity systems with more efficient gas turbine-based solutions. Modern naval vessels increasingly depend on electrical power for operating multifunction radars, sonar equipment, electronic warfare systems, communication networks, and advanced weapons. The new generators provide improved power density, faster operational response, and greater efficiency while creating additional electrical reserves for future upgrades. Increased power availability could support emerging technologies such as directed energy weapons, advanced sensor arrays, and high-performance combat systems. The programme also strengthens India’s domestic expertise in marine turbine manufacturing and supports long-term ambitions to develop more advanced naval engineering capabilities within the country.
